Key Scripture:

Hebrews 11: 1-16

James 2: 14-24

Key Points:

  1. Faith requires a promise.

  2. Faith and trust go hand-in-hand. You have to trust God in order to have faith that things will happen or that certain things (like heaven) exist.

  3. Faith produces evidence. Your faith should be evident in works that help other people. Works alone, however, will not lead to salvation. Salvation comes through faith, not works.

  4. Faith requires endurance. Our path may be long and difficult. Encouragement can help a heavy heart, so Christians should encourage one another to keep the faith.

Key Scripture:

Hebrews 10: 19-25

1 Peter 5: 6-10

Key Points:

  1. We are called to draw near to God and can do so anytime we want to because of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

  2. We draw near to God when we read the Bible, pray, express our gratitude to God, ask God for help, and show consideration for one another.

  3. God is always within reach for those who believe. So, why do we sometimes feel distant from God? If we aren’t reading the Bible daily, if we aren’t praying daily, if we haven’t prioritized Christian community, then we’ve allowed our faith to weaken. It is not that God has moved away from us, but rather that we have moved away from God.

  4. If you feel distant from God, if you are allowing your faith to weaken, run to the Father!!! Peter addressed lazy Christians and warned them that Satan is always on the prowl and will attack believers who have allowed their faith to weaken.

Key Scripture:

Hebrews 9: 22-28

Genesis 3

Luke 9: 23-24

Luke 18: 18-30

Matthew 28: 18-20

Key Points:

  1. Forgiveness requires sacrifice.

  2. As Christians, we are called to live sacrificially. We must live a life of self-denial. Instead of living selfishly, we must live for Him.

  3. We may be asked to sacrifice our time, our money, our schedule, our comfort, and even our personal goals in order to fulfill God’s desires for our lives.

Key Scripture:

Hebrews 4: 1-11

Key Points:

  1. Rest requires that work has happened beforehand. Jesus did the work so that Christians can rest.

  2. God does not want our work because our work will always fall short. Instead, God wants our hearts, our obedience, and our worship.

  3. If we are disobedient to God, we may never find rest.

Key Scripture:

Matthew 3: 1-6

Luke 1: 5-17

Luke 1: 76-80

Luke 3: 11-14

Romans 6: 20-23

Matthew 3: 13-17

John 1: 35-37

Key Points:

  1. A successful ministry requires preparation.

  2. We need to be prepared to share the Gospel while also being sensitive to God’s timing.

  3. We should praise God openly, worship Him even when things aren’t going well, meet the needs of others, invite people to church, and give all glory to God.

Key Scripture:

Acts 20: 17-35

Acts 21: 3-4

Acts 21: 10-12

Key Points:

  1. Paul reminded the church leaders that as leaders, their entire lives were on display. As Christians, we must pay careful attention to ourselves because others are watching.

  2. Selfishness and selflessness cannot coexist.

  3. We must pray for strength to carry on with God’s will even when facing possible danger. We must not face adversity alone but rather gain courage from other believers.

  4. Sometimes, potential danger is a test of obedience.

Key Scripture:

Acts 15: 1-20

Acts 15: 36—41

1 Corinthians 8: 1-8

Key Points:

  1. Christians are allowed to disagree with one another concerning spiritual “grey matters” or “matters of indifference.”

  2. Although we have liberty to exercise our conscience in these “grey areas”, we should not let our freedom become stumbling blocks for others. If you exercise your freedom in such a way that it causes someone to stumble in their walk with Christ or if your behavior contributes to leading another astray, then you have sinned.

  3. Because Christians are commanded to love one another, that love should override our personal freedoms.

(Guest Speaker: Rev. Kody Easter)

Key Scripture:

James 3: 1-12

Key Points:

  1. The tongue is small but powerful.

  2. The tongue is humanly impossible to tame; we need God’s help to control our mouths.

  3. There should be consistency in the heart and the mouth of a Christian.

  4. An inconsistent walk will result in inconsistent speech.

  5. Speak as one who will one day give an accounting for the words you have said.

Acts 8: 1-3

Acts 9: 1-31

Key Points:

  1. God alone is our righteous judge.

  2. An encounter with Jesus changes you.

  3. A changed life changes lives.
